What is Swing? – Swing is a 1930s jazz dance that looks a bit like Rock’n’Roll or Jive. It is a social partner dance that is about leading and following. Swing is an expression of humour and individuality and is more often about playing and having fun than doing only steps. It is different to most other social dances as you can break away from your partner and improvise to the music together. See What is Swing dancing for more info.

Love the music? – Does Swing music get into your body and make you want to dance to it… but you don’t know how? Feel your body pulsing and cant help smiling to classic hits such as ‘Hit the road jack’, ‘I’m just a gigolo’, ‘Zoot suit riot’, ‘Sing sing sing’ and ‘Mac the knife’? Want to come along to an event and experience the music and dancing first hand? See events for more info.

Meet the teacher – Elaine Peace trained as a Ceramic Artist and Art teacher and she has been teaching dance for 8 years since arriving in Ireland from Scotland. On moving to Cork from Limerick in 2006 she went to a beginner’s drop-in class at ‘Doubletime’ and fell in love with Swing. Presently, Elaine wants to share her passion for all things Swing and has set up regular weekly dance classes and dance club ‘Deca-Dance’ where she is DJ Divine Miss P. If you would like a Dj or a dance class for a Swing event to get the party started see Parties.

  • Classes are fun and alot of music is played. We change partners often which is great to meet new people.
  • Its a good laugh and we can ask for individual help during class.
  • Its energetic and fun and time at the end to socialize.
